Understanding a Miniature Husky

Understanding a Miniature Husky

The significance of a miniature husky is that just like any other huskies, the Siberian husky is a very family dog. Although moderately bigger in size, the huskies don’t require much space. Being highly intelligent dogs, they do not require much time in training or much physical care and grooming.

Due to all these characteristics of adult or miniature Siberian huskies, these dogs are great pets and are pretty easy-going dogs.  But make sure that you cannot put these miniature husky breeds for pet shows since, for registration, approval from American Kennel Club is needed.

American Kennel Club does not recognize this dog breed as an official dog breed since this miniature husky is quite similar to a regular-sized Siberian husky.

Appearance

Appearance

For all dog lovers or even non-dog lovers, Huskies are pretty easier to recognize and understand. They have a distinct look and feature to them, which makes them more accessible for everyone to identify them.

Size

Even though miniature husky is shorter in size, there is still a difference between the male and female sizes.

  • Females are about 13 – 16 inches tall, and their weight is between 20 – 30
  • Males are about 14 – 17 inches tall, and their weight is between 25 – 35

Coat & Color

Coat & Color

The coat and color of this mini husky are as the same as the regular-sized Serbian huskies. The color of the coats of these mini huskies is similar to those of the regular-sized Siberian or Alaskan husky.

The colors are black, white, brown, sable, and even red. Since the breed is of similar species but has size differences, the color of the coat is the same.

Exercise Requirement

Exercise Requirement

Since these species are very energetic, they need a lot of exercises for them to grow and develop. So if you have a big enough backyard, then your miniature husky is going to have a great time playing and running around in the backyard.

It makes the huskies very happy to just run and play the zoomies all around. Since they are very fast and are great at escaping, you need to make sure the backyard gate is closed.

  • And twice a day for daily walks.
  • They need about 60 minutes of total exercise a day.

Grooming

Grooming

Taking proper care of your pets is very important for any pet owner. When you have a full grown miniature husky, grooming is like brushing the coat a few times a week. They also mate easily, so you have to groom them at least twice in a week to keep their coat in proper condition.

Even though they are high maintenance in terms of grooming, they do not leave a pungent odor in your house. They do not need regular showers as well, as they groom themselves.

It is very common for these dogs to shed their fur since they have thick fur on their body. About twice a year, huskies go through heavy shedding. This is the only downside of having a miniature husky; they shed a lot. Their double coat keeps them insulated during the winters, as well as protect them from the sun. Because of their heavy shedding they are not suitable for people with allergies.

So if you were planning to give them a nice haircut and get yourself rid of the trouble, get rid of the idea immediately. They need their coats throughout the year.

Food Habit

Food Habit

The diets of miniature huskies are not so similar to any other lapdogs or smaller dog breeds. They would thrive very well with lox carb food diet, which has heavy meat content but not particularly raw meat.

To prepare a diet plan for your miniature husky, it is best that you consult your vet. If you have any problems or concerns, then let your vet monitor the growth of your dog.
