1. Xanclomys

Not many people have even heard the name of these animals that start with X, which is Xanclomys, which is now currently extinct. This animal originated in Northern America and lived along the time of the Paleocene period, around 66 million

These animals are terrestrial animals, and they hunted and foraged for food. These animals are known to be omnivores in nature, so moved small animals and plants were hunted as food. 

2. Xanthippe’s Shrew

One of the most intriguing animals that start with X is the Xanthippe’s Shrew. The Shrew is not a rodent but a mole, a native to Eastern Africa, especially Tanzania and Kenya. Even if these shrews have a similarity to rodents but they are a relative of the hedgehog family. 

The Shrew is normally regarded as an omnivore, and eat plants and smaller animals, but being smaller in size, their predators are kestrels, weasels, owls, and foxes.

This fish inhabits the Amazon and Orinoco basins, the water is both acidic and alkaline water. These fish like to live in groups or school as they feel safe in large numbers. 

4. Xantus Hummingbird

The Xantus Hummingbird is only 9cm in size and was commonly seen in California, around the Baja Peninsula. The adult Xantus Hummingbird has a green upper portion and back portion. 

These birds have a long beak along with a tongue so that they could suck the nectar from the flowers. These birds often prey on and catch smaller animals and insects as they can fly quite fast. 

5. Xerus

While most squirrels prefer to climb on trees, the only squirrel that lives on the ground is the Xerus, they are only present in Africa. Although a few of the invasive Xerus live in the Canary Islands. 

A total of 4 species of these Xerus live in parts of Africa, from Namibia, and Morocco to Tanzania. These grassland squirrels prefer to live in grasslands, woodlands, and rocky areas, where they could find an adequate amount of food supplies. 

6. Xeme

When we are talking about animals that start with an X, then the Xeme should be included in the list. The Xeme also called a Sabine gull, the bird is found near the tundra and the Arctic coasts. 

It is to be noted that the bird ends up pairing and they mate for life. The Xeme is known to eat only eggs, insects, insect larvae, small fish, spiders, and young birds.

This is one of the animals that start with the letter X, which is another dog, although with a weird name. The dog is basically hairless, with wrinkles and teeth abnormal, but they have a huge temper, and these dogs were one of the first dogs that the AKC registered as a dog breed.

The Xingu Corydoras is a fish that is quite often found in the Xingu River which is in Brazil. Since the water was of optimum temperature, as it is in Southern America. 

Like any other fish species, the Xingu Corydoras is also an omnivore fish, feeding on smaller animals and plants. Although they are also hunted by seaweed, worms, and plankton. 

9. Xantus Leaf-Toed Gecko

The Xantus Leaf-Toed Gecko is another great example of an animal that starts with X. This Gecko is inhabited by California and even parts of New Mexico. They prefer to live in the dry desert area, but also in the shrublands. 

10. Xenarthra

From the sloth and the anteater’s family, there is a member called the Xenarthra. They are known to reside in Latin America, especially in rainforests. The main diet of these animals is especially termites and ants, and due to their slow metabolism, these animals eat less. 

11. Xeme (Sabine’s Gull)

Sighting a Xeme is very rare and they reside in the high Arctic regions. Xemes are small gull that are found in the northern parts of America and Europe. But they move to the Arctic in the breeding season. They migrate over the oceans, and during the winters they live in tropical waters. 

They fly over the seas, in shallow ponds in search for fishes and insects. Most of the time they spend most of the year in flocks.

12. Xenacanthus

Xenacanthus are a prehistoric genus of sharks. They became extinct at the end of the Triassic period, almost around 202 million years ago. They lived through a wide area and they lived from Devonian time to the end of the Triassic Period. 

Xenacanthus is basically a Greek term that means “foreign spine.” There are very few complete fossils that were found. Most of the information that has been derived are from the spine and teeth samples. They were freshwater sharks.

13. Xenoceratops

Xenoceratops are the oldest horned dinosaurs  and they were discovered first in Canada. They were two-ton herbivorous dinosaurs and lived in Canada back in the Late Cretaceous period which was around 80 million years back.

This makes them the oldest horned-dinosaurs. They are also one of the oldest creatures that were found in North America. Though only a few parts of the dinosaur’s anatomy is preserved in fossils, scientists have derived a lot of facts and information about their evolution of the large-bodied dinosaurs by studying Xenoceratops.

14. Xenotarsosaurus

There is not much information about the Xenotarsosaurus because of their incomplete fossils. They are a genus of dinosaurs, and they lived in Argentina back in the Late Cretaceous Period. It is one of the first dinosaur fossils that was discovered in Argentina. They are a member of the family Clade Abelisauridae.
