From Labradoodles to Goldendoodles: Exploring the Different Types of Doodle Dogs

If you are a dog lover, then you are definitely aware of one of the most adorable mixed dog breeds, which is the doodle dog breed. Poodle mixes are a very popular mix dog breed that produces healthy offspring.

Now we all know that there are different sizes of poodles, like toy-sized, miniature, standard, and teacup poodle. Doodle dogs are bred with each of these poodle breeds.

Each of these dog breeds shares a slightly different genetic build-up. Although the physical outcome and the temperament are not altered due to a slight change in the genetic component. But there are certain health issues that can pass on from the parents.

Types Of Doodle Dogs

There are many different types of doodle dogs, but today we are only talking about a few of them, and they are.

1. Goldendoodle (Golden Retriever + Poodle)

It’s no doubt that cross-breeding between a poodle and a Golden retriever is an obvious choice. The demand and popularity in the 1990s which never stopped again.

Goldendoodles are smart, intelligent poodle breeds with high athleticism capabilities. And since both the parents are known for their obedience, a goldendoodle is a highly obedient doodle dog.

But you need to remember one thing these doodle dogs are quite furry. And so, a goldendoodle haircuts are a must after each quarter

2. Bernedoodle (Bernese Mountain Dog + Poodle)

The Bernedoodle is huge, giant fur balls that are so adorable that they will crush you with their sweetness. First bred in 2003, these dogs were bred for the purpose of companionship.

Since both the parent dog breeds are working dogs, the Bernedoodle won’t mind cuddling with you on the couch. They are easier to train since they are highly intelligent dogs.

3. Labradoodle (Labrador Retriever + Poodle)

The labradoodle is the first poodle mix that was ever created and became highly popular. Being the original doodle dog, they are a very intelligent and athletic dog breed.

Since poodles don’t shed as much, and labradors are pretty low maintenance, you won’t have maintained this dog as much. They are working dogs, and due to a labrador’s eagerness to please, they are great companions for you.

4. Cavapoo (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel + Poodle)

Back in 1990, the Cavapoo was first breed and instantly it became a great family dog. The Cavapoo inherits its fun-loving and caring quality from the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

While intelligence from their poodle parent. The Cavapoo is a great dog if you are looking forward to having a therapy dog.

5. Aussiedoodle (Australian Shepherd + Poodle)  

As we all know that Australian Shepherd dogs are great as working dogs, and the poodle are also working dogs. So a combination of both these dogs is definitely going to be great as working dogs.

An Aussiedoodle was first created somewhere between the 1990s and 2000s, and people instantly fell in love with them. The beautiful little puppies ooze out the personality of fun-loving and goofiness.

Since both the parents are working dogs, the Aussiedoodle is a highly intelligent dog breed, They need a lot of exercise to burn their energy, so running around outside or doing something mentally stimulating keeps them busy.

6. Rottle (Rottweiler + Poodle)

You can call them in many names, a Rottie Poo, Rottie Doodle, a Rottie Poodle or simple a Rottle. It is well known that a Rottweiler is a very intelligent yet stubborn dog to take care of for a new owner.

When you mix those genes with a poodle, the result is a highly intelligent, stubborn, and athletic dog breed. These dogs need a lot of outdoor space to just run around and burn their energy. Active owners, they are great as hiking and running partners.

7. Sheepadoodle (Old English Sheepdog + Poodle)

The Sheepadoodle was first breed back in the 1960s as an experiment by the U.S Army. Since both dog breeds are known for their high intelligence, loyalty, intuition, and bravery, they make a great mix breed.

This type of doodle dog became a household name ever since the 1990s and were tagged as great family and companion dog. They are still highly popular because of their playful and carefree attitude.

8. Foodle (Fox Terrier + Poodle)

When a Fox Terrier is mixed with a poodle the outcome is something so cute that you would wanna snuggle with it all the time. Their best qualities are being attentive, easy to train, and very alert to their surroundings.

A foodle is a great dog if you have a small living space since they are smaller dogs. They are great with other animals and even small children, but proper socialization is required.

9. Yorkiepoo (Yorkshire Terrier + Poodle)

As you can see that, in most of the cases, the poodle mixes were first created in the 1990s. And talking about the Yorkiepoo, they are the same as well.

Being highly loving and friendly towards their owners, they make great family pets. The Yorkiepoos have high intelligence and affectionate personalities. With a soft gentleness in that as well. But be aware of intense barking and odd hours.

10. Schnoodle (Schnauzer + Poodle)

The Schnauzer and Poodle mix or a Schnoodle was first bred in the 1980s to 1990s. And just like any other poodle mix, the Schnoodle is a great family dog. This breed is sometimes known as the Snickerdoodle.

Known for being highly friendly, loving, and playful, they are great with kids and other animals. These doodle dogs are great as therapy or lap dogs and even performance dogs since they love getting attention.

11. Shih-Poo (Shih Tzu + Poodle)

This breed of doodle dog became a popular breed back in the early 2000s. They are adorable, small pups but their face always portrays that they are alert about their surroundings. 

By nature they are affectionate, friendly and quite playful, but because of their size they are a bit fragile.They love to snuggle with their parents and would never miss an opportunity to sit on your lap or get inside the blanket with you.

12. Boxerdoodle (Boxer Dog + Poodle)

It has not been long since Boxerdoodles became popular, but they are well known for their friendly, active and playful nature. They need a place for playing and a fenced yard is best for them to play and run. They also require a lot of exercise.

If they are trained and socialized they become great companions for kids, and they love to be surrounded by people, so they make great family dogs. They can be small or large, depending on the parent they were bred from.

13. Irish Doodle ( Irish Seter + Poodle)

Irish doodles are known as Irish Setterdoodle, Doodle Setter, Irish Poo Setter and Irish Setterpoo as well. This breed of doodle dog is known to be a great retrievers and hunter. Apart from being playful, intelligent, and active, they are also sensitive. 

They make great companions for other pets and children and thus are great family dogs. But it is important to keep them mentally and physically stimulated, otherwise they might become destructive.
